Clinical pastoral training program
These evaluations are codified in a specific format detailed in the appendix of the student handbook. Didactic Modules : Students must complete the didactic modules denoted on the unit syllabus.
Each unit includes at least two or more required modules. Students have a total of three attempts to pass the test at the end of each module with a score of 80 or better. The three attempts must be made within seven days of the module completion date denoted on the syllabus or prior to the unit completion date. Clinical hours may be completed at your current place of ministry if you are currently employed as a Chaplain or Pastor of a church , or any number of institutions including but not limited to; hospitals, hospice houses, corporate settings, prison systems, skilled nursing facilities, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and community services.
Your hours may be paid or volunteer. Each student is responsible for keeping track of these hours on the CPE Weekly Clinical Hours Log provided in the appendix of the student handbook, and having this form signed by the proctor at the clinical site. During which time, the SIT must also evaluate the didactic material in an instructional capacity and work with the CPE supervisor to codify lesson plans, identify individual learning differences and garner appropriate instructional methodologies.
The SIT must evaluate how each student addressed the following subjects: theology of person; how they picture and talk about illness; how they picture human suffering especially among the innocent; and how they picture pain and destruction. This has opened my heart to patients in-hospital, of course; but it has also changed the ways in which I interact with my friends, family, and myself. Before CPE, I sought to provide answers for problems, each one rooted in my own life.
Now, I seek to ask questions about the individual and their responses and needs. Before CPE, I found myself often preoccupied by my own life and problems. Yet now, by finding a new appreciation for the ways in which my own life intersects with the lives of others, I have found myself more present and engaged in each intersection. What is Clinical Pastoral Education?
What is clinical pastoral education? This question hangs over prospective CPE students from the moment they attempt to answer it as part of their application for admittance into any ACPE-certified program. It was the first question my educator, Dr. Jacob George, asked me during our introductory class. Must be a U. Application Requirements Applicants shall provide a completed ACPE application with accompanying materials and documentation.
Submitted materials should reflect an openness to sharing, the capacity to reflect at deeper levels and being receptive to the learning process. Applicants shall provide evidence of either graduation from high school or completion of a GED. All personal information in written documents will be redacted.
If applicants have had previous units of CPE training, they are asked to submit copies of their certificates of completion, along with previous self-evaluations and evaluations written by the primary ACPE Certified Educator with whom they have worked.
Persons pursuing Level II training are to include previous CPE evaluations written by the ACPE Certified Educator demonstrating that Level I outcomes have been met, as well as any process notes or reports composed by a consultation committee regarding readiness for advancement.
Acceptance and admission to the program is contingent on submission of all requested materials and meeting all eligibility requirements as determined by the program. On occasion, a lay person may qualify for admission. The setting provides a rich base for clinical experience and opportunities for continued personal, professional and pastoral development.
